ETHAN ALLEN'S BLOG: Ethan and Diction

The term "terrorist suspects" is turning up in SVR material. I made such a fuss and took such a stand against it at a meeting in Montpelier, in vain, that I want to go on record again, as one who adamantly wants to see it removed from our language. Using this term makes us part of the scam that is used to do the very thing we abhor: Build the Empire. We agreed to put it in quotes from the time of that meeting, but the quotes have been removed.
No terrorist suspect has been swept up since 9/11. All those captured, held, and tortured have been captured, held, and tortured in order to build up the fictitious story that must be sold to the public by Republicans and Democrats and the media.
These captured people, according to international law, are kidnap victims.
We must stop being a part of playing into the hands of those who commit crimes against humanity and treason against us and the Constitution. As long as we are helping them out in this way, they can further justify torture, solitary confinement, and eventually the sweep of American citizens who oppose the empire. This is a witch hunt, only worse, since the people doing it know damn well what they are doing.
We, secessionists, are supposed to be smarter and better than that.

Your comments on 'terrorist suspects' reminds me of another bad use of language. The events of 9/11 are frequently described as 'the 9/11 attacks' or 'terrorist attacks.' The word 'attacks' implies external enemy, a threat, inviting a military response. Those events seem best labeled as 'crimes,' however, not attacks. Crimes that remain worthy of honest, aggressive investigation and prosecution -- sadly, over six years after those crimes were committed.
