THE DAILY MAUL: Yakking with "Taste of Vermont" In D.C.?
Submitted by Rob Williams on Thu, 05/07/2009 - 7:43am.
First of all, I'd like to thank my journalistic colleague Cathy Resmer of Seven Days for her wonderful coverage of the Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility conference in Burlington the other day.
Vermont Commons has been a dues-paying VBSR member for several years now, and I always learn so much when in the presence of some of Vermont's finest entrepreneurial minds. She also mentioned my "aggressive twittering" at the conference - and it is true, Vermont Commons entered the Twitterverse one month ago, and I've been experimenting with "live tweeting" on a few occasions. I'm not sold yet, but Twitter is proving a much more interesting tool than I thought at the outset. (Find us in the Twitterverse here.)
Today, though, I am on my way to D.C. (The heart of the Empire, and, as my kids like to say, the town where Barack Obama lives) to a Newseum media education/policy conference, and then a week-end catching up with old friends at a wedding.
I just got word through Sally Pollak at the BFP that Senator Leahy has organized a "Taste of Vermont" event featuring 50 Vermont foodie businesses in the Senate Caucus Room tonight. Apparently, Pete Johnson (Vermont CSA farm hero) will be in attendance, along with plenty of good Vermont culinary fare.
I'm traveling with some yak sausage from the Vermont Yak Company - perhaps we'll sneak some into the party.
More soon.
