Inspired by our friends at Occupy Wall Street and Dr. Cornel West, Move To Amend is planning bold action to mark the second anniversary of the infamous Citizens United v. FEC decision!
Occupy the Courts will be a one day occupation of Federal courthouses across the country, including the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., on Friday January 20, 2012.
Move to Amend volunteers across the USA will lead the charge on the judiciary which created and continues to expand corporate personhood rights. 100 cities (and counting!) are holding rallies to participate in Occupy the Courts: a one-day protest at federal courthouses across the United States including the US Supreme Court.
Please watch and share our video call to action and join an...

Fukushima and Its Impact Upon the Westinghouse-Toshiba Designed AP1000 Atomic Power Plant from Fairewinds Associates on Vimeo.
Fairewinds was retained by the AP1000 Oversight Group to evaluate the AP1000 design for flaws that are now evident as a result of the nuclear accidents at Fukushima. The NRC’s refusal to thoroughly examine these flaws is reminiscent of the Atomic Energy Commission’s refusal in 1972 to thoroughly examine the innate flaws in the GE Mark 1 containment systems that failed at Fukushima. The AP1000 Oversight Group is demanding that these design flaws be remedied prior to design certification, lest history repeat itself.

The occupation of Burlington’s city hall park has entered into a common trend that the nation wide movement of occupations share now, becoming a refuge for the homeless. This issue made it to the attention of Vermont’s mainstream media today Nov. 9th on WCAX after a letter was mailed to Burlington’s Mayor Bob Kiss, stating that the city’s at-capacity Homeless Shelters were referring people to the encampment and the occupiers didn’t have the training nor means to correctly provide assistance to the homeless. In the WCAX report (VIDEO), The Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS) is quick to deny the allegations to the mayor after being questioned, but a COTS spokes person goes on to “doubt anyone at COTS would refer someone to the park, but...

(Video below) Vermont guerilla gardeners at Occupy Wall Street plant Organic seeds from the grassroots Vermont based seed company High Mowing Seeds. These activists, though not affiliated with High Mowing, are fulfilling their philosophy:
"we believe in re-imagining what our world can be like. We believe in a deeper understanding of how re-built food systems can support health on all levels – healthy environments, healthy economies, healthy communities and healthy bodies. We believe in a hopeful and inspired view of the future based on better stewardship for our planet. Everyday that we are in business, we are growing; working to provide an essential component in the re-building of our healthy food systems: the seeds." - High Mowing...

On Oct 29th, the 2011 Conference on Environmental Action was held at the VT Technical College in Randolph. In the following Video a “some-what complicated” question was asked to Gina McCarthy, who is the Assistant Administrator for the EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation. Here is the question rephrased – It has been 32 years since the EPA did an assessment of the ambient radio frequency radiation, what kind of pressure should we put on the EPA to update their data?
Gina McCarthy doesn’t know the answer to the question, but says “If you think its an issue, and we haven’t looked at it, we are more than happy to take a look at it.” She goes on to say that if you ask them to update their RF radiation data you should also thank them for what...

This past Tuesday, the 13th of September, two migrant farm workers were arrested during a “routine traffic stop”. VT Governor Shumlin has ordered an investigation. Excerpts from The Seven Days Blog article with my responses.
According to Hoag (the Driver a US citizen), during the stop State Trooper Jared Hatch radioed back to a supervisor to check whether he could ask the passengers about their immigration status. As Hoag recalls, the trooper then told him that he could, as long as the farm workers were not victims of or witnesses to a crime. When Lopez and Antonio couldn’t produce documentation, police took them into custody and called the Border Patrol.
Response – First, this is a breach of the VT State Police’s bias-free policy that...

Following the Food Sovereignty Movement that was solidified by the Via Campesina, Family Farmers in Maine are standing-up to state and federal regulations, claiming their right to sell their farm products locally. Watch the recent Maine PBS report on the four towns that have passed Food Sovereignty Ordinances. If it weren’t for these local ordinances some of these family farms would have gone under!
Via Campesina “the Peasants’ Way” is an international grassroots movement which coordinates local organizations world wide. It is a coalition of over 148 organizations, advocating family-farm-based sustainable agriculture and coined the term “food sovereignty” in 1996.

Hurricane Irene, who was down graded to a Tropical Storm, embraced Vermont on Sunday the 28th of August. The rain swelled the rivers over their banks; flooding downtowns, stranding many with road closures, destroying bridges, disintegrating mountain roads and taking down power lines leaving many without power. The 100 year flood plain is something that isn't documented well enough nor heeded when it is.
In Permaculture, observation is your number one "tool" and water is a key element to watch throughout the season and especially in instances like the flooding of Irene. In a sustainable whole system design, documented observations of waters movement through and over the land are invaluable.
We have issues in Vermont, with our many...
